EPISODE 70: John Reardon (Collectability) Part 1 – what happens now the Patek Philippe Nautilus 5711 has been discontinued

John Reardon has spent the last two decades surrounded by Patek Philippe; either in his roles at major auction houses or when he worked for the company in New York. So when news of the discontinuation of the famous (and impossible to acquire) Nautilus 5711 surfaced in the days before our interview, we knew we had to ask John about it. And, as you might expect from one of the world's leading Patek experts, he had some thoughts, particularly about the skyrocketing prices we're seeing at the moment: "I think we're going to look back at this as a market blip. The fact that that we're seeing them for over $100K US, I find — as an historian — almost laughable." To find out why Reardon thinks the hype is nonsensical, we get some context on the model, and just what a 'discontinuation' means for Patek Philippe. Essential listening.
